Matt was around for a little bit of shooting for small parts in MOSS, and one such character, the Alone Man, was written into LICHEN as a more extensive character. Unfortunately, Matt was only home for one week this summer, so we had to do all his shots then. Worse, some of those shots use very involved special effects and virtual sets that I was completely not ready with. I had a week to shoot Matt and the other people in those scenes in three geographically far apart places. Thankfully we got it done, though I fear we ate up most of his family time. Matt's not an Oscar calibre actor by a long shot, but he did pretty well. (What would YOU do if you were shoved in a cramped car, driven for an hour to a studio, told to sit in a chair in front of a blue wall for half an hour while we got the lighting right, and another half hour under those hot lights speaking when told to so we could get the audio set up, then told to flail your limbs and pretend you were falling miles and miles out of heaven towards the ground. And to look in certain directions, react to nothing, take baby steps forward, etc. Matt must have a good imagination, because even those very abstract shots turned out pretty well.
